"Dear Future Host family,
we are Alessia's mother and father. We are very proud of Alessia as she has always been a very good child and we consider ourselves lucky in this respect.
We really hope that the year she would like to spend abroad will help her to come out of her shell and overcome her fears and her “limitations”.
As for her social life, Alessia goes out with her friends on a Saturday nights and has to be home by 11 p.m.
With regard to Alessia's character, we are very happy to say that she is a lovely daughter as she is good-mannered, sensitive and thoughtful and also very studious. Probably it would be more apt to say that she is a geek as she always spends time studying and learning new things. Alessia will often put her hobbies aside in order to do all her homework which makes us feel bad sometimes. On the other hand, we are also thankful that she has a sense of responsibility and duty.
Her curious and ambitious nature makes her forceful and people who surround her feel stimulated by her presence. Fortunately, she manages to get over things just as quickly because of her fighting spirit. Sometimes it can be difficult to get her to open up and talk because of her reserved personality. However, with a bit of patience Alessia manages to be more forthcoming.
Moreover, Alessia is always ready to help with the housework and even though we have a cleaner who comes twice a week, if there are things that need doing she is the first to help out, especially during the Christmas holidays . She likes cooking and so she likes preparing everything in order to make those days perfect, as all the things she does. We can define her almost unconventional, and this is why having her as host daughter would be very nice.
Her desire to spread her wings is closely related to her great love for travel and in this case, one of her favorite quotes is “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page” (Augustine of Hippo) which describes Alessia's lifestyle perfectly.
Nevertheless, she has plenty of interests, like cinema, reading and baking cakes. So as not to make the list too long we can sum up saying that she always tries to experience new things and to find her personal place in the world.
Her attitude is the same for sports, as she always likes trying new activities in order to keep fit. She loves fruit and vegetables even though she has got a sweet tooth when it comes to sweets and cookies. However, she has a lot of self-control and self-discipline so she manages to overcome her temptations! So, please, don’t feel hurt or disappointed if she doesn’t want to eat much.
About our family, there are four of us in all plus a little turtle even if our eldest daughter lives in France. She often comes back to Italy to stay with us during the holidays but we do miss her a lot, so allowing Alessia to go away for 10 months has been one of the most difficult decisions we have ever made.
Since our daughters are not children anymore, we manage to have a good relationship with them. By saying that, we don’t mean we didn’t have one years ago. It was just different because we couldn’t treat them as adults. Now, we share our opinions and they give us advice, contributing in family affairs. If there are problems we talk and help one another too. However, as I said before, this is a bit more complicated with Alessia, who prefers not to have adults interfering with her own problems. Probably, this is part of growing up.
Even though we are very anxious parents and we'd like Alessia to be close to us, we also know that she is an individual. She is the daughter of the world and we must let her spread her wings and become stronger and richer by feeling free to do as she pleases, never forgetting her motto which is the following: "Dare to be strong and courageous. That is the road. Venture anything" (Sherwood Anderson).
All the best,
Alessia’s parents"
Ciao!
